Puccini’s Tosca is one of opera’s great dramatic masterpieces—a story of love, faith, power, political conflict, and betrayal, set to some of Puccini’s most passionate and unforgettable music.
Set in Rome in June 1800, the opera follows celebrated singer Floria Tosca and painter Mario Cavaradossi as they are caught in the dangerous schemes of Baron Scarpia, Rome’s ruthless chief of police. The drama unfolds over the course of a single day, moving from the church of Sant’Andrea della Valle to the Palazzo Farnese and finally to the Castel Sant’Angelo.
Wichita Grand Opera’s production will feature an outstanding cast of operatic artists from across the country, joined by talented local performers, students from Wichita State University, and the WGO Orchestra and Chorus, bringing Puccini’s powerful score and timeless drama to life on the Century II Concert Hall stage.
