Century II Spire to Shine Again After Nearly a Decade
Wichita, Kansas – Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center, an ASM Global managed facility, is excited to announce the lighting of the venue's spire for the first time in nearly a decade.
The lighting will take place June 1, during Riverfest's "I Choose Wichita" evening festivities.
Century II General Manager John Hale said the spire restoration fixes a problem long inquired about by the Wichita community.
"I am happy to see the lighted spire return to the night skyline of downtown. Century II's blue roof and lighted spire were a familiar part of Wichita and people have often asked me if or when it would be lit again," Hale said. "I was glad to hear that the City of Wichita was working on a solution and that it was successful."
The spire lighting is made possible by the collaboration of ASM Global, the City of Wichita, and Wichita Festivals, Inc., along with the hard work of the Park Maintenance & Forestry Division of the Park & Recreation Department and the Facility Maintenance Division of Public Works & Utilities.
BreAnna Monk, President & CEO of Wichita Festivals, Inc. said the return of the spire’s light marks a meaningful moment for the city.
“Lighting the Century II spire after nearly a decade is a powerful symbol of unity and celebration," Monk said. "It’s an honor to mark the moment at Family Movie Night — a bright reminder of Wichita’s spirit."
The spire lighting comes just one year after the completion of the venue's new roof.
