The young Count Almaviva wants to marry the beautiful Rosina, but her guardian, the aged and grumpy Dr. Bartolo, stands in the way, desiring Rosina (and her dowry) for himself. With the help of a clever barber named Figaro, Almaviva disguises himself and uses wiles to get close to Rosina and win her heart while outwitting Bartolo and his slanderous accomplice, Don Basilio. In the end, true love triumphs as Almaviva reveals his true identity and Rosina’s affections are won. The opera is filled with comedic situations, mistaken identities and sparkling humor. The music smiles from beginning to end with Italian sunshine and warmth.

Count Almaviva will be portrayed by up-and-coming star Morgan Mastrangelo, who will be complemented by the magnificent stage presence of Sandra Piques Eddy, whose Rosina has been seen and heard all over the world. Dr. Bartolo will be given life by Peter Strummer, famous for his artistry and comedic genius. Peter Volpe brings his rich voice and years of performing in the world’s greatest opera houses to Wichita in the role of Don Basillio. WSU graduate Cole Bellamy returns to Wichita to portray Fiorello, Almaviva clever servant, and graduating WSU Soprano and recent winner of the Concerto Aria Competition, Ashley Ruckman plays Berta, the sneezing, tobacco loving maid. Ambrogio, the bumbling lackey, is sure to find his way directly into the heart of the audience with Wichita’s beloved son, Tom Frye. The star of the story, Figaro, the barber of Seville, is brought to life by the highly accomplished and attractive presence of Luis Orozco.

"We have assembled a stellar cast of experienced stars and new talent, and we are thrilled to bring this classic opera to the stage," said Whitney Reader, WGO's Artistic Director. "Our goal is to offer audiences a magical evening of music, laughter, and an unforgettable opera experience."
